Mozambique on the East Coast of Africa

The Mozambican Government does not at the moment issue a Health Certificate declaring the animals to be exported free of disease. It issues a veterinary certificate declaring the origin of the animals, the approved facility in which it was kept, the confirmed quantities in the shipment, the type of packaging and name of the Government inspector responsible for the hygienic control of the facility and product. Our company has its own program monitoring the health of our animals. We routinely check for WSSV, HPV and MBV. These are the pathogens which we believe could be present in the seas on the East Coast of Africa. Over the last 9 years since testing started, we had no confirmed case of a viral infection in our wild animals. We issue a declaration that our animals are healthy on the basis of our own testing program. The season for catching wild shrimp normally opens in March each year and closes at the end of November. During this period adult size animals are collected by us in Beira until June and in Vilankulo (Nova Mambone) form July until November. We can therefore constantly supply during the open season. A total of 1500 to 2000 can be collected per month, depending on the weather and the demand. We ship in the standard spawner bag and poly-container with 10 liter water at temperatures varying from 19ºC to 23 ºC depending on the packing density and length of the journey.

Our animals present themselves with different colors varying from gray, brown and yellow (pictures to right). The typical trait of Mozambican Monodon is the white spot on the swimming legs which other strains do not display. The tail seems to be more red than Monodon encountered in the Asian waters.

Our broodstock molt easily and produce normally as wild prawns do. Sizes vary between 90 gm to 120 gm for females and 55 gm to 65 gm for males. Multiple spawns is easily achieved because the animals are young and strong.

The most important characteristic is that it has been tested over and over again to be with out any of the know pathogens. Our animals are healthy.
