Mozambique on the East Coast of Africa

Andrisa Schnell (CEO)

Dr Chris Schnell (Technical Director)

The white building in center is the broodstock holding and conditioning facility in Vilanculo. It is situated next to a holiday resort in an untouched part of Africa within a National Park where water quality is excellent.
| In 1997 broodstock was exported to the rapidly growing shrimp farm in Seychelles. The health of the animals was continuously monitored and until today our shrimp never developed any viral disease. Since 2002 Marbar started to explore markets in Asia. Large quantities were very successfully shipped to farms in Malaysia and Thailand. At the moment the Mozambican Fisheries Ministry licensed three shrimp producers to operate farms in Mozambique, namely Beira, Quilimane and Pemba. They also licensed our company to collect, market and export broodstock. The above mentioned three shrimp producers formed an association and asked the Fisheries Ministry in 2005 to control the collection and marketing of broodstock. A commission was formed to report to the Minister, who is busy preparing new legislation. This was reported in aquaculture circles as a decision to ban the exportation of broodstock. There has not been any new legislation banning the exportation of broodstock. |
